MARVALOUS NORWAY
Intro-

Our country is Norway, the land of the Midnight Sun. You'll be learning about all the fights for indpendence and basic history. You will also learn about the king and queen thrown past down from generation to generation.

Culture #1- History

First, know that all of Europe (including Norway) and Scandinavia are where the Vikings came from. They crosseed the North Sea approximatly 500 years before Columbous. Another historical fact is that Harlard, the Fairhair became the first king of Norway. They called him Harlard the Fairhair but his real name was actually Harlard Finehair. Also, in World War 1, Norway was determined as a nuetral country. Nuetral means to not pick a side so in the case of World War 1, people would come there to get away from the war. One other thing is that after being controled by Denmark since 1814, Norway has been an independant country for over 100 years.

First, Culture #2- Groups

Another cultural fact of Norway is the groups that make it up. One huge group of Norway is the sport skiing thats been in a big part of Norway for thousands of years. It's beenin this country so long that they even have cave drawings that show people skiing. A fact about skiing is that in the begining, people didn't ski for the joy of it, they skiied to get around. Not suprisingly, Norway hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics in the city of Lilehammer.

Culture #3- Economy

Compared to the world the people of Norway live pretty comfortable. Norway is the worlds 2nd largest oil exporter behind Saudi Arabia. The government tried to branch out the oil industries so it is not so dependent on the oil. Norwegian companies also build ships, make paper products, metals and, chemicals. In Norway they also raise livestock and, they also farm.

Culture #4- Government

Norway is a constutional monarchy which means they elect a king or queen. Until 1990, the Norwegian monarchy passed to the firstborn son. Now, it is given to the oldest child, male or female. Harald IV is the current king. The person who makes the decisions though, is the prime minister who is the dominant political party in the Parliment.
