The Amazing Country of Ireland

Introduction

Ireland is the most interesting country in not only Europe but the whole entire world!!! I loved learning about all the different people and what they do in Ireland. Did you know wherever you are in Ireland you are no more then 70 miles from the coast line? Or that There are absolutely no snakes in Ireland? This is believed to be because an old legend states that St. Patrick got them to leave by beating a drum!external image wg-ireland-1835-400x300.gif

History

over one million people died an another 2 million left Ireland during a span of five years because of the great potato famine of the 1840s. The great potato famine was when all the potatoes turned black and rotten underground so they had no food to eat. The people that did not die from hunger ended up getting some disease and would die that way. When the people of Ireland left most often came over here to America but also went to many other countries. somewhere around 70 million people worldwide claim to be some part Irish.

Daily Life

Most families in Ireland have too kids, so you would most likely only have 1 sibling. Most families now live in cities and towns, but if you would want to visit you older relatives you would have to go out into the country. Most children learn to play an instrument because it is a big part of there culture. Most of the children also learn how to do Irish dancing and participate in competitions called Feiseanna. But the children there are also very much like us here, they like to watch t.v. and they go to school.

Religion

88% of people are Roman Catholic, 3% of people are Church of Ireland, and the other 9% are stated as other. The Roman Catholic religion plays an important role in Ireland's laws and the way all or the people live. such has they used to have a ban on divorce and now they have a ban on abortion, all because of the Catholic people. But the number of people attending the Roman church is dropping, Because it is becoming more and more unpopular.
